There are times when you will need to update mailbox settings. This could be due to migrating to a new mail server or maybe just replacing outdated server ports. This guide is designed make this process as simple as possible. We advise you run a backup of all existing mail prior to guarantee no loss in mail. If you are currently using a POP set up, contact Vector 7 first.
Outlook Version
There are numerous versions of Microsoft Outlook. In this guide we take a look at how to update mailbox settings on Microsoft Outlook on Windows PCs for both Classic and New Outlook Versions. Classic Outlook instructions can be found just below with New Outlook instructions being found lower down. Jump to the New Outlook guide.
Classic Outlook
The instructions here explain how to update Classic Outlook. We advise that you backup your emails before following the guide below. If your Outlook interface looks different from the screenshots shown, you may be using New Outlook instead. Jump to the New Outlook guide.
1. On the top navigation click File.
2. Click the Account Settings button and then click Account Settings... in the dropdown menu.
3. Select your email address that you are updating under the Email Tab. This should highlight your email address. Now click Repair.
4. Click Advanced options, then click the tickbox saying Let me repair my account manually. Now click Repair.
5. Fill in the details below as shown along with the Username and Password boxes, where you enter your specific email address and assocaiated password.
Username: Your email address
Password: Your Password
Remember password: Ticked
Server: imap.stackmail.com
Port: 993
Encryption Method: SSL/TLS
Require log on using SPA: Unticked
Once details have been added, select Outgoing email.
6. Fill in the details as shown:
Server: smtp.stackmail.com
Port: 465
Require log on using SPA: Unticked
My outgoing server requires authentication: Ticked
Use same settings as my incoming email server: Selected
Once details have been added, select Next.
7. It should now say "Account successfully repaired". Click Done and close the Account Settings window. Your emails should now be working.
New Outlook
New Outlook does not reliably allow users to update existing email settings. Depending on how the account is configured, some settings may be editable, while in other cases no changes are possible without removing and re-adding the account. We advise you backup your emails before following the guide below.
1. On the top navigation click File then Account info.
2. Click Manage next to the email you are updating.
3a. Attempt Repair (if possible).
If there is no Repair button, or you need to changing incoming settings, skip to step 4a.
If you are only changing outgoing settings you may be able to do this through Repair. Sometimes Microsoft Outlook gives a Repair option, but sometimes there is no option.
If you see a list of settings with a Repair button, you may be able to fix an outgoing mail issue by clicking Repair.
3b. After clicking Repair, you will be shown the settings below. Some settings will be greyed out and will be uneditable.
Enter your Password into Password field.
Make sure outgoing settings are as follows:
SMTP Outgoing server: smtp.stackmail.com
Port: 465
Secure connection type: SSL/TLS
Click Continue. Close Settings. Check if fixed. If not you may need to remove and re-add the account entirely. If so, restart from step 1 and skip steps 3a and 3b.
Remove old connection
4a. You can attempt to keep the old connection in place, but this could cause conflicts. If you want to attempt to keep the old connection in place, skip to step 5a.
4b. Click Remove
Your email will now have been removed from Outlook. Now you need to reset up the email with the following steps.
Add new connection
5a. Click Add account button
5b. Enter your email address into the box then click Continue.
5c. Scroll down and select IMAP.
5d. Fill in email password then click on the toggle to Show more.
Password: Your email password
Select Show more
5e. Fill in the details below as shown:
IMAP Incoming server: imap.stackmail.com
Port: 993
Secure Connection Type: SSL/TLS
SMTP Configutation
SMTP username: Your email address
SMTP password: Your email password or leave blank
SMTP Outgoing Server: smtp.stackmail.com
Port: 465
Secure Connection Type: SSL/TLS
Once details have been added, click Continue.
5f. You should now be shown a message asking you to Sync your IMAP account. Click Continue.
5g. You should now be shown a message saying success. Click Done and close the settings window. You should now be able to use your emails.
