How to send Email from your Stackmail account using Gmail

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of sending emails from your Stackmail mailbox using Gmail as an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) client.

This enables you to harness the power and convenience of Gmail, while keeping your Stackmail email as your primary platform.

You will need:

  • SMTP Hostname – this is smtp.stackmail.com
  • Mailbox name – the full email address you wish to send from (i.e. [email protected])
  • Mailbox password

Log in to your Gmail account

  1. Open your web browser and go to Gmail ( https://mail.google.com/).
  2. Log in with your Gmail account credentials.
  3. Once logged in, click on the gear/cog icon (⚙) in the upper-right corner of the Gmail interface.
  4. From the drop-down menu, select See all settings.

Configure Gmail as an SMTP client

  1. In the Gmail settings page, click on the Accounts and Import tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Send mail as section and click the Add another email address link.
  3. A popup window will appear. Enter the name you want your clients to see when they receive an email from you (i.e. Company Name/Your Name) and the email address associated with your Stackmail mailbox.
  4. Tick/Untick Treat as an alias:
    • Tick if:
      • You want to Gmail to manage this as an alias of your Gmail account.
      • You want replies to come back to your Gmail account (not your Stackmail address).
    • Untick if:
      • You want Gmail to treat this as a separate account.
      • You want to send through the Stackmail server.
      • You want replies to go directly to your Stackmail mailbox (not your Gmail address).
  5. Click the Next button.

Configure SMTP settings

  1. In the next window, you will need to enter smtp.stackmail.com as the SMTP Server.
  2. Select port 587.
  3. For the username and password, enter your full Stackmail email address and the associated password.
  4. Ensure the Secured connection using SSL option is selected.
  5. Click the Add Account button.

Verify ownership

  1. Gmail may send a verification code to your Stackmail email address. You will need to retrieve this from the Stackmail mailbox, using either webmail or your existing email client setup.
  2. Enter the code in the verification window to confirm ownership.

Send Emails via Gmail using Stackmail SMTP

You've now successfully configured Gmail to send emails through your Stackmail SMTP server with the hostname "smtp.stackmail.com."

When composing a new email in Gmail, you can now choose to send it using your Stackmail email address by clicking the "From" field and selecting your Stackmail email address. Please note if you checked or unchecked 'Treat as an alias':

  • Checked (alias): Gmail manages it as another identity; replies go to your Gmail inbox.
  • Unchecked: Gmail treats it as a separate account; replies go to your Stackmail inbox.

By following these steps, you've seamlessly integrated your Stackmail email services with Gmail as an SMTP client. This enables you to enjoy Gmail's user-friendly interface while using your Stackmail mailbox as the backend, making email management more efficient and convenient.
