Prior to launching your brand new website, there are a few steps needed from the technical team to ensure a smooth transition from your old web-marketing / web-hosting company to ourselves.
At a glance
✔We may need to carry out email migrations
✔Completely non-intrusive methods
✔Some DNS records may need to be replicated
✔Transfer processes are different between .co.uk domains and .com domains
Email Migrations
Depending on how your current emails are set up, we may need to carry out email migrations. Within all email migrations, any emails held within your mailboxes (i.e. [email protected]) will be "copied and pasted" from the current email server on to our own email server. This non-intrusive method ensures that your current setup is not affected, so you will not notice any difference when accessing your emails throughout this process.
By carrying out email migrations prior to proceeding with launching your website, we can ensure that any emails you currently have are not lost during the transition phase of launching your website.
The technical team will carry out research in-house prior to emailing you, as email migrations are not always required. Our team will advise you at the time of moving over to our services whether this is a required step or if this can be skipped.
DNS Records
When getting your new website live, we aim to ensure all existing services are uninterrupted before, during and after the process is complete. This means that, ocassionally, we will need to replicate existing DNS records to ensure external services are not disconnected whilst we work with you and your current web-marketing company.
As with email migrations, this is not always required, and depends on individual setups and requirements. The technical team here at Vector7 will carry out research here prior to any work proceeding and, if required, liaise directly with yourselves and your current hosting company to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
Domain Transfers
Following the completion of the email migrations and replication of the DNS records, the technical team will be able to begin the process of transferring your domain over to our hosting service. Depending on your domain, this process may be different for each individual. Some domains may also take up to 7 days to fully transfer over following the initial transfer request to the registrar.
The technical team will send over instructions to yourself and your current web-hosting company pertaining to your domain and domain extension at the time of the transfer process.
